A Sunamganj court on Tuesday placed wife and son of a slain freedom fighter on three-day remand. The accused were identified as Asia Khatun 60, and her son Milon Mia 18, of Sultanpur village under Luxmipur union of Doarabazaar upazila in the district.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Begum Israt Jahan passed the order when police produced the duo before the court in the murder case of Freedom Fighter Abdul Barik.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Doarabazaar Police Station Abul Hashem confirmed the matter. After producing the accused before the court, the OC appealed for three-day remand. The court, however, accepted the plea.

Earlier on Sunday morning, Abdul Barik 75, son of Muslim Ali of Sultanpur village, was rescued from his house with fatal injury. Later, his wife and son took him to the local hospital in a critical condition where the on duty doctors declared him dead.

Aftermath of the incident, both the wife and son went to the local police station to file a case against the rival neigbours who have a long-standing quarrel for the possession of a fragment of land. During the visit to the police station, a grandson of Abdul Barik who accompanied Asia and Milon Mia during the interrogation by police, informed that his grandmother and uncle had killed his grandfather by hitting him on the head with an iron road. As a result, police arrested both wife and son of Barik.
