The man Loton, fought against the occupying Pakistani soldiers and their collaborators and killed a number of them in face to face fighting during the liberation war in 1971, now lives in a rented house in Jhenaidah town as he could not construct a house for his family members in last 50 years.

A house for the veteran freedom fighter (FF) might reduce the sufferings of the family, said Golam Mostafa Loton, ex district commander of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad of Jhenaidah. He hails from village Narikelbaria in Jhenaidah Sadar upazila.

Loton said when Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman urged upon the countrymen to participate in the war against Pakistan, he left the country and joined the training course for the FFs at Chakulia in Vihar. Earlier he was preparing for sitting in the secondary school certificate examination then.

After completion of the training course, Loton along with 60 freedom fighters including three ex lawmakers Golam Mostafa, Nuruddin and Mashiur Rahman, Golam Rais and Birpratik Sadar Uddin left the camp with fire arms and ammunitions. They had fought in sector number 8 under Company Commander Subedar Major Abdar Rahman.

The heroic son of Jhenaidah said they had participated in a number of fighting against the occupying soldiers and their collaborators at Dhopakhali in Alamdanga and Jibannagar of Chudanga. In September of 1971, he along with his troops faced the occupying forces at Arpara in Kusthia town for the last time.

He said a total of seven Pakistani soldiers including a Captain and a physician were gunned down, while they lost tow of their friends during the day of fierce fighting. Later FF Sadar Uddin of Khajura in Jhenaidah was named Birpratik for the fighting, Loton said.

Once a terror to the occupying forces of Pakistan in 1971, Loton led Bangladesh Muktijoddha sangshad (the organization for the freedom fighters in 1971) Jhenaidah district unit command for continuous eight years. Now is one of the front line activists as a renowned social worker.

He said the success daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been offering houses for the distressed freedom fighters throughout the country to ensure safe house for them. As he is not in a position to construct the house for his family members with his small enterprises, desires the Mother of Humanity will consider to hear his appeal when he is at the apex in his life.
