In Jibannagar (Chuadanga), free moong bean seeds and chemical fertilisers have been distributed to marginal farmers under the rehabilitation support scheme for the current fiscal year’s Kharif-2 season, as part of a government incentive programme.

The distribution took place on Monday at 10:30am in the premises of the Jibannagar Department of Agricultural Extension. A total of 170 farmers received 5kg of moong bean seeds, 10kg of DAP fertiliser, and 5kg of MOP fertiliser each.

The event was attended by Jibannagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Al-Amin Hossain as chief guest. Special guests included Agriculture Officer Alomgir Hossain, Upazila Engineer Ashraful Islam, Social Welfare Officer Zakir Uddin, Cooperative Officer Nur Alam, Agricultural Extension Officer Pavel Rana, and Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officers Shaha Alam, Mahabub Bin Sadiq, and Yasin Ali.

In their speeches, the guests emphasised that Bangladesh is not yet self-sufficient in pulse production, requiring regular imports to meet demand. They explained that legumes like moong beans help restore soil fertility, which is declining due to overuse and poor management. Growing pulses not only improves soil health but also boosts the yield of subsequent crops. This initiative aims to promote sustainable farming practices among small-scale farmers.
