Fr Peixotto’s first death anniversary observed

Notre Dame University Bangladesh (NDUB) recalls the memory of Rev Father Joseph Stephen Peixotto, CSC, on Thursday centering his first death anniversary.

The noted educationist, was former Treasurer of the university also served as the principal of Notre Dame College, passed away in Dhaka on February 4, 2021, aged 87.

Immediately after the death of the priest, in a condolence message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the nation would remember the contribution of Father Peixotto in the country’s education sector.

The catholic priest of the Holy Cross Congregation breathed his last around at Moreau House in Rampura.

During the reminiscence ceremony arranged for Fr Pixotto on Thursday in university campus, administration members and office stuffs attended the programme maintaining health protocol.

The Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the university Professor Dr Fr Patrick Gaffney, CSC, said, “With his efficiency, compassion he served this country. We learnt from him that how any task should be completed relentlessly in a joyous manner.”

Father VC added, “His expression, dedication for work, care for duty as well as his humor was extraordinary. We will remember him always.”

Special prayer was offered for Fr Pixotto while Fr Subas Adam Pereira, CSC recited from the Holy Bible. Dr Fr Leonard Shankar Rozario, CSC, Registrar-in-Charge of the university delivered concluding remarks.  

Fr Peixotto came to erstwhile East Pakistan in 1962, a year after his ordination -- had been a science teacher at Notre Dame College for 34 years. He served as its principal for over two decades being the longest-serving principal in the history of this prestigious institution. 

Since 2014, Fr Peixotto held the post of treasurer of Notre Dame University Bangladesh till his demise.
