Four get life term for murder in Joypurhat

A court here Monday sentenced four people to life term imprisonment for killing a man in Panchbibi upazila of the district in 2010.

Additional District and Session Judge Court-2, Judge Md Abbas Uddin pronounced the verdict this afternoon.

The convicts are - Sohag, 35, Raihan, 38, Aminul Islam, 37, and Harunur Rashid, 36, residents of Ratanpur village of the upazila.

The court also fined them Taka 10,000 each.

According to prosecution, victim Shahadul Islam went to the house of the accused at Ratanpur on January 6, 2010 to collect the dues money amount of Taka 60,000. While returning from there, the accused stopped his motorcycle and hit him with a stick, leaving him seriously injured.

Locals took him to Joypurhat Modern Hospital.

Later, he shifted to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital, where he died on 7 January 2010.

Victim's mother Shahera Begum filed a murder case with Panchbibi Police Station accusing four people.

The investigating officer of the case, sub-inspector (SI) Mominul Haque, submitted charge-sheet against them on July 30, 2010.

After examining the record and witnesses, the court found them guilty.

Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Nripendranath Mondal confirmed the matter.

Another reports of BSS from Narial adds:  A Narail court sentenced a man to life imprisonment in a narcotics case filed in 2009. Additional District and Sessions Court-2 Judge Md Saiful Alam handed down the verdict on Monday. The lifer is Md Kader Biswas, 40, son of Karim Biswas of  Mohammadpur area of Jashore's Chougacha.

According to prosecution story, police searched a bus near Sitarampur bridge in Sadar Upazila in 2009 and arrested Kader with 3 litres of phensedyl.

Following the incident, a case was filed with Sadar Police Station.

After examining records and witnesses, Judge Md Saiful Alam handed down judgement said Alamgir Siddique, an additional public prosecutor at the court.
