Four get life for double murder

Four Shailkupa men were awarded life imprisonment and fined Taka 10 thousand each in double murder case. Eleven others were convicted in separate term for killing two persons in 2009. The court of additional district and session’s judge Mohammad Shawkat Hossain declared the verdict in Thursday noon. 

The convicts were Kuddus Mia, Kobad  Hossain alias Koba Mollah,  Rais Uddin, Bachchu Mia, Likson Hossain, Jiku Mia, Kolom Hossain, Abul Bashar alias Darpan, Rabiul Islam, Alam Mia, Habibul Islam, Iqbal Mia, Matiar Rahman, Tarun Mollah and Sachchu Hossain.

The prosecution in brief Some Kafil Uddin of Bittidebi Rajnagar was stabbed in a quarrel following distribution of Halkhata invitation letter on April 15 of 2009. When Azim Munshi of the village came to rescue Kafil Uddin, they attackers also hacked him. 

Kafil Uddin died on the spot, while Azim Munshi succumbs to his injuries on the way to Kushtia general hospital.

Some Habibur Rahman, a nephew of Azim Munshi filed a killing case with Shailkupa police station against 17 persons next day. The investigation officer (IO) of Shailkupa police station submitted charge sheet against all 17. When the petitioner opposed the charge sheet, three others were added in the list of accused. 

After a long procedure the court on Thursday had awarded life imprisonment to Kuddus Mia, Kobad Hossain alias Kobad Mollah, Rais Uddin and Bachchu Mia and fined Taka 10 thousand each of the convicts, while eleven were awarded imprisonment in separate term. Four of the accused were acquitted from the charge when they were found not guilty. One of the convict was also acquitted from the charge when he was dead, the court sources said.

Additional public prosecutor Advocate Abdul Khaleq stood for the state, while advocates Shamsuzzaman Lucky and AHM Khairuzzaman stood for the accused.
