Chattogram district administration and Chattogram Department of Environment conducted a joint drive in Raozan upazila of Chattogram on Wednesday and fined a total of Tk 1,80,000 to four illegal brick kilns.
The drive was conducted in Joynagar, Rashidapara and Kolompati area of the upazila. Executive Magistrate of Chattogram district commission Rakibul Islam led the drive.
During the drive, Rakibul Islam said, by extracting soil from a place not approved by Deputy Commissioner and taking preparation to make brick using that soil, they violated section 5 of the Brick Manufacturing and Kiln Establishment (Control) Act, 2013. Due to that, manager of Messrs Jamuna Bricks Industries (Brand- SB) Sazzan Hossain Chowdhury, manager of Hazrat Jalil Shah (R) Bricks (Brand- FFB) Md Ilias, manager of Messrs Anwar Bricks Industries (Brand- 505) Mamun were fined Tk 50,000 each in three separate cases and manager of Messrs Ekota Bricks (Brand- AB) Md Abul Kalam was fined Tk 30,000 in one case under section 15 of the Brick Manufacturing and Kiln Establishment (Control) Act, 2013. A total of Tk 1,80,000 fine was realized from the four brick kilns.
