A former UP chairman was hacked to death by miscreants in front of Char Kalna Government Primary School on Lohagora-Kalna road under Lohagora upazila in Narail on Monday evening. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Badar Uddin Khandaker, 43, former chairman of Lohagora UP and son of Moer Ali Khandaker of Kalna village at the upazila. He was also a local Awami League leader. OC of Lohagora police station Mohammad Alamgir Hossain confirmed the matter.

Police and locals said the terrorists attacked Badar Uddin with sharp weapons in the area when he was returning home riding on motorcycle from his brick kiln at Kalna Ghat area at about 6:00 pm. Locals rescued him and sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead at about 9:00 pm.  A case was filed in this connection. Police said that Badar might have been killed by opponents over previous enmity.
