Former Navy chief dies of Covid-19

Former Chief of Naval Staff Rear Admiral Muhammad Mohaiminul Islam (retd) died at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka on Tuesday night. 

He had been suffering from kidney problems for a long time. On July 1, 2020, he contracted the corona virus (Covid-19) and was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital. 

He was 79 years old at the time of his death. Muhammad Mohaiminul Islam was the Chief of Naval Staff from 5 June 1991 to 3 June 1995.

Members of the Navy at all levels and close relatives, expressed deep grief over his death.

His funeral was held at the Naval Headquarters Mosque after Asr prayer on Wednesday. After Janaza, his body was buried at the military cemetery in Banani following proper hygiene rules.

Muhammad Mohaiminul Islam was born on September 11 in 1941 at Kolaghat, Bengal. He spouse is Shirin Hasanat Islam.
