A Chattogram court granted a three-day remand for former Member of Parliament (MP) of Chittagong-11 Constituency MA Latif on Saturday.
The remand was granted for questioning regarding the explosives act case.
He has been arrested and sent to court on Saturday afternoon in a case of ordering to fire at the student movement. After the hearing in the court, a three-day remand was granted for the former MP MA Latif.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Prosecution) Mofiz Uddin said the sentence was announced at the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Deb.
Officer-in-Charge of Double Mooring Police Station Fazlul Quader Patwari said the former Awami League MP MA Latif was detained from Bayzid Bostami area on Friday night.
He said former MP MA Latif was detained from Bayzid Bostami area in Chattogram city on Friday night. A case has been filed against him for ordering to fire at the student movement. He was taken to the Chittagong Metropolitan Court seeking a seven days remand in this connection. After the hearing, the court granted a three days remand.
Acoording to the case, a person named Ershad was shot and injured in Dewanhat area on his way back home after participating in the anti-discrimination student movement programme held in New Market area of the city on August 4. It has been stated in the statement that the accused, including Nagar Chhatra League leader Zakaria Dastgir, beat and injured the plaintiff Ershad and the people accompanying him with rods and hockey sticks. The attackers also detonated hand bombs.
The injured are under treatment in the hospital at present. Injured Ershad cased file as the plaintiff against 16 known and 100 to 150 unknown individuals, including
MA Latif.
After the fall of Sheikh Hasina government, MA Latif stayed in his relative’s house in East Madarbari Malum Mosque area of Chattogram city.
He was attacked by BNP leaders and activists on August 9 when he was going to the mosque. Later, members of Bangladesh Army rescued him.
MA Latif was elected Member of Parliament four times from Chittagong-11 constituency for Awami League.
He was the president of Chittagong Chamber before that.
