Forest guards arrested 7 fishermen while illegally catching fish and crabs in Sundarbans. These fishermen were arrested from Narkelbaria in Sharankhola range and Bhangar canal area of Shelar Char in separate raids on Wednesday morning.
The arrested fishermen are Asadul of Sharankhola upazila of Bagerhat, Omar Farooq Gazi of Rampal upazila, Montu of Morelganj, Zafar Peyada of Taltali upazila of Barguna and Kamal Kazi of Patharghata upazila.
3 motor boats, 4 dinghies, 6 contraband nets, huge amount of bamboo traps for crabs and various goods were seized from the arrested fishermen.
Nazrul Islam, officer of Sarankhola station in East Sundarbans, said that on the basis of secret information, Assistant Conservator of Forests Mahabub Hasan conducted a raid and arrested these fishermen.
No forest department pass-permit was found with the detained fishermen.
They were illegally entering the forest and extracting fish and crabs. A case has been filed against them under the Forest Act.
