Forest dept boatman’s body recovered in Sundarbans

Police recovered the body of a boatman of Forest Department from the Madar river at Vetkhali area of the  Sundarbans under Ramjannagar union of Shyamnagar upazila in Satkhira on Monday night.

The deceased was identified as Nawab Ali Ghazi 65, son of Abdul Majid of Purba Kaikhali village in Shyamnagar upazila. He was a boat operator of Kaikhali Station Office of the Forest Department.

Victim’s son Rafiqul Islam, another boatman of the forest department said, at around ten o'clock in the night, Nawab Ali left home to go to the station next to the house after someone called him over phone.

Rafiqul Islam also said that they did not inquire for Nawab Ali all night, thinking that he had gone for patrol. However, after two o'clock in the afternoon, when people from Kaikhali station came looking for Nawab Ali, they started searching.

Local UP member Abdul Hamid Laltu said that after the Coast Guard Officer called him over phone at night, he informed the Shyamnagar Police Station about the submerged body lying in the platoon.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shyamnagar Police Station Nazmul Huda confirming the matter said that police had recovered Nawab Ali's body and preparations were being made for the autopsy.
