Foreign minister visits Payra Port

Foreign Minister Dr A. K. Abdul Momen and State Minister of Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam visited the Port of Payra on Sunday with senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Dr Momen looked around the port with Director Generals, Directors and other Secretaries of the Ministry including Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen. At this time, the foreign minister planted a tree in the port area. An inspection of the Port was  organized so that the officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs could gain direct idea and facilitate the development activities of the government and the country's potential all over the world.

Dr Momen expressed his optimism that the officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be able to highlight the efficiency and service of the port to the world. The Foreign Minister also expressed his hope that the officials and employees of the Payra Port would continue to work sincerely to survive in the competition of the world by providing advanced services including fast loading and unloading of goods.

A video regarding the activities and plans was shown during their visit. At that time, it was informed that at present about 200 ships ply yearly in the 45 km channel. However, after the completion of the construction, 50 ships will be able to operate every day. Construction of some parts of the port building has been completed including the installation of a power plant. 

Payra Port is being set up at Kalapara Ramnabad channel of Patuakhali district. It was inaugurated on November 19, 2013 by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The main objective of establishing this port is to reduce the pressure of Chittagong and Mongla ports and the socio-economic development of the area.
