Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has organised the ‘Ambassadors Outreach Program’ so that foreign diplomats can know better about the country and its progress.

By visiting outside the capital, the diplomats will spread the news about the potential of the Bengali nation and the development activities going on across the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, thereby spreading it globally, he added.

Foreign Minister said this while interacting with the reporters at the

Chattogram Railway Station on the eve of the Cox’s Bazar journey by train after visiting the Naval Academy and Karnaphuli Tunnel in Chattogram along with the heads of missions of various countries and organisations on the first day of the two-day ‘Ambassadors Outreach Program’ of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen, Additional Foreign Secretary Dr Nazrul Islam and senior officials also participated in the program.

Foreign Minister said that the foreign ambassadors were brought to Chattogram so that they could know more about our country and see the great development activities that are taking place in the country. They will go to Cox’s Bazar by train from Chattogram.

While asked, whether this visit of foreign representatives will strengthen the relationship with them or not, the Foreign Minister said “Of course they will get to know Bangladesh better, they have visited Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar outside Dhaka. They spent a few hours in Chattogram, they saw the first road tunnel in South Asia under the Karnaphuli River.”

He said that there is no road tunnel under the river anywhere in South Asia including India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka. They saw that. These extraordinary developments, which people could not have imagined 15-20 years ago, are a reality today and diplomats have seen that reality with their own eyes.

While asked whether there will be talks about Rohingya repatriation with foreign diplomats, Hasan Mahmud said, “We always talk to them about the Rohingya issue and many of them have gone to Rohingya camps. And still if they get a chance they will go to the Rohingya camp.”

A total of 34 diplomatic members including 24 heads of missions of international organizations are participating in this outreach programme.

Diplomatic members of the European Union, Russia, China, Korea, Italy, Denmark, Kosovo, Pakistan, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Vatican, Bhutan, Spain, Argentina, Libya, Singapore, Australia, Egypt, France and representatives of international organizations including FAO, IUT and AKDN are participating in this outreach program.
