Food assistance provided to sex workers in Faridpur

With the financial support of Faridpur Educo Bangladesh, Shapla Mahila Sangha has distributed food items among 200 sex workers of C and B Ghat red light district in the city.

Faridpur Sadar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Shah Md Sajib handed over food items to the sex workers on Wednesday afternoon. 

Also present on the occasion were Md Anwar Hossain, Project Officer of Educo Bangladesh, Chanchala Mandal, Executive Director of Shapla Mahila Sangha and Prashant Kumar Saha, PIC, Protection through Good Education and Self-Help (SSS) Project.

5 kg of rice, 5 kg of round potatoes, 2 kg of dal, 1 kg of salt, 1 kg of detergent, 1 kg of oil, 1 piece of soap and 1 piece of mask was distributed among sex workers. 1kg sugar, 500 One gram of semolina, 250 grams of powdered milk and two packets of Lexus biscuits were handed over to 100 children of sex workers.

The executive director of Shapla Mahila Sangha said, “Two red light districts were closed by administrations in the city due to the coronavirus.

Since then, the sex workers have been suffering greatly. In the meantime, some NGOs, as well as the administration, have helped them. Today, we have provided humanitarian food assistance to the unemployed sex workers and their children.”
