Flood situation worsens in Jamalpur

The flood situation in Jamalpur district has deteriorated drastically.  In the last 24 hours till Saturday noon, the water level of Jamuna River has increased by 4 cm and is flowing above the danger level of 63 cm.  

As water level continues to rise, several new areas have submerged. 

Locals in the area said that extreme crisis of food and pure water already occurred in the region. 

On Saturday afternoon, it was seen that the water level of Jamuna and Brahmaputra rivers rose by 4 cm.  About 90,000 people have been marooned in the area.  

Land, houses, unpaved roads and various educational institutions along with 3,550 hectares of crop fields have been submerged in water.

Although the administration has provided adequate relief, there has been no visible relief distribution 

in the area, distressed people complained.

District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Mohammad Naib Ali said that the administration has allotted 112 metric tonnes  rice and Tk 34.50 lakh in cash for the flood victims in the flood-hit areas.  

Besides, the district has been prepared with 400 metric tonnes of rice and Tk 72 lakh in cash.  155 shelters and 75 medical teams have been set up to deal with the disaster.  

All kinds of preparations were made by the administration to deal with the floods.
