Andre Fletcher, Soumya Sarkar and finally Thisara Perera blazed with their bats to down Sylhet Sunrisers by nine wickets in the Bangabandhu BPL on Thursday.
At the Mirpur Sher-e Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Khulna Tigers winning the toss sent Sylhet to bat and booked them on 142 runs. With the real character of T-20 batting from Andre Fletcher, Soumya Sarkar and Thisara Perera Khulna needed only14.2 overs and lost one wicket to reach the winning target.
It was fourth defats for Sylhet out of their five outings when Khulna grabbed third win from six matches.
In fact, this season the Bangababandhu BPL cricket had become a torture-tale for Sylhet Sunrisers considering their performance as it is a story of disgrace and heartbreaks for the fans when they suffered their fourth defeat out of their five encounters.
Khulna Tigers and the Sylhet Sunrisers, who were going almost parallel way in view of points table in the BPL before yesterday’s match but after having the impressive win Khulna upgraded their point tally to six.
Even though there had been some shining moments for Sylhet when Mithun and Mosaddek were playing and helped the team to a respectable total of 142 after losing three wicket for 34 from 8.1 overs, but sadly, they just get overshadowed by the dismal displays of very ordinary bowling attack the fierce batting of openers Fletcher and Soumay.
Sylhet Sunrisers, who are the bottom side of the point table in the ongoing Bangabandhu BPL, looked struggling at initial stage to get out from the agony they have been facing, but finally could manage 142 runs thanks a valuable 68 runs partnership from number third and fifth batters Mohammed Mithun and the captain Mosaddek Hossain.
Mohammedan Mithun, who should get credits for playing the vital role scoring a marvelous 72-run innings off 51 balls as at the time his team was going through under huge trouble losing three wickets for 34 from 8.1 overs.
Mithun and Mosaddek just took the charge to rescue from the difficulties against aggressive bowling attack from Khaled Ahmed and Nabil Samad.
Khulna Tigers’ attacks, headed by Khaled Ahmed with his fuller length and extra bounce just made it too tough for the Sylhet batters to face when from the other end his bowling partner Nabil Samad accompanied him perfectly.
Khaled ended his four overs spell with 20 runs taking two wickets when Nabil Samad, who was more upsetting for the Sylhet batters. Nabil Samad’s spell was possibly one of the most economy bowling when he conceded only 10 runs including a maiden, though had only one wicket.
However, Mithun and Mosaddek, who rescued the team from the damage, the former hammered four sixes and six fours being got out just before the last ball of the innings. Mosaddek, in his 34 off 30 runs hit a couple of sixes and three boundaries.
To chase the moderate total of 143 runs, Khulna made a very sensible start with Andre Fletcher Soumya Sarkar appeared with attacking mood from the very beginning and reach almost half way the target in the power play batting.
Andre Fletcher remained unbeaten 71 off 47 balls with hammering five sixes and as many boundaries. Soumya Sarkar hit 43 from 31 balls and Thisara Perera finished with 22 runs facing nine balls.
