Flesh of dead animals being sold at hospital, jail and hotels in Rajshahi

A Consumer Rights Court in Rajshahi on Saturday night has fined Tk 160,000 to four persons on the allegation of selling flesh of dead animals in Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, Rajshahi Central Jail and in various hotels and restaurants of the city for a long time.

Police also held those four persons with several dead goats and sheep and a huge stale flesh kept in a pick-up but did not take any punitive measure against them except imposing them the fine. The arrested persons were identified as Mashiur Rahman Apple, Kayes Hossain, Faisal Hossain and Foisal Hossain of Dargapara area under RMP. 

Those four persons informed they used to collect dead goats and sheeps from various upazilas including from Shibganj of Chapainawabganj district and preserved those inside the fridges. Later, they supplied the flesh of those dead goats and sheep at a low price to the concerned authorities of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, Rajshahi Central Jail and to various hotels and restaurants of the city. 

Rajshahi Metropolitan Detective Branch of Police sources informed, acting on a tip off, a team of DB police seized a pick-up van ( Dhaka Metro-Na-16-5205) at Balia crossing on Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj Highway and by searching the pick-up recovered 150 kgs of stale flesh kept in plastic bags, four slaughtered goats and sheep and 27 sick goats. Four persons on the pick-up informed they were engaged in selling stale flesh and flesh of dead goats and sheep for a long time. 

Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan DB Jewel Arefin informed arrested four persons admitted that they used to collect dead goats and sheep from various villages and supplied those to Rajshahi Central Jail, Hospital and various hotels and restaurants of 

the city. 

The arrested persons were handed over to the Consumers Rights Court of Rajshahi division and the court imposed a fine of Tk 160,000 to those accused and no other punitive measure was given to them.
