Five women to get ‘Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib’ award

The Ministry of Women and Children Affairs has finalized five women who will be awarded ‘Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib’ award. 

State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatun Nesa Indira made the remarks at a press conference held at Bangladesh Shishu Academy on Friday regarding the celebration of Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib's 91st birth anniversary and awarding of the ‘Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib’ award.

She said that the government has declared the birth anniversary of Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib, the source of patriotism, political foresight, courage, sacrifice and inspiration, as a class ‘A’ National Day. 

From this year onwards, the highest national medal of ‘A’ category ‘Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib’ will be awarded to commemorate the contribution of Bangamata. 

The award will be given to five prominent women in recognition to their significant contributions in the field of liberation war and independence, education, research, agriculture and rural development and politics this year.

The five women who will be awarded this year are Prof Mumtaz Begum (posthumous), a heroic freedom fighter of Brahmanbaria, in the field of independence and liberation war, Jaya Pati (posthumous) of Tangail in the field of education, culture and sports, Ms Nurunnahar Begum, an agricultural entrepreneur of Pabna, in the field of agriculture and rural development, Jobeda Khatun Parul, a heroic freedom fighter of Comilla, in the field of politics and Nadira Jahan (Surma Zahid), a writer and researcher of Netrokona, in the field of research.

The state minister told the reporters that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will join the ‘Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib's 91st Birthday Celebration’ and ‘Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Award’ giving ceremony virtually from Ganabhaban as the chief guest on August 8. 

State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatun Nesa Indira will preside over the function from Osmani Memorial Auditorium. 

The Deputy Commissioner of Gopalganj will also join the event virtually.
