Five people in a car, including children, survived a severe road accident on the Dhaka- Chattogram highway on Saturday.

The incident occurred around 10:30am near Faujdarhat Cadet College in the Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram when a 40-ton container of a lorry overturned and landed on their moving vehicle.

The passengers were identified as Abu Bakkar, 42, Musa Ahmed, 60, Adila Akhtar, 6, and Adina

Akhtar, 3. The injured, all hailing from Fatikchhari’s Maizbhandar, were immediately taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Eyewitnesses said both the lorry and the car were in motion on the highway when the container suddenly fell on the car, and the passengers became trapped under the massive weight of the container.

A team from Bara Aulia Highway police station and Kumira Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the scene and initiated a rescue operation.

They worked relentlessly for nearly 45 minutes, successfully rescuing the trapped passengers from the wreckage around 11am with the help of wreckers and cranes.

While the driver of the car sustained minor injuries, the remaining passengers were unharmed, much to the relief and astonishment of the rescue teams.

Sultan Mahmud, senior station officer at Kumira Fire Service and Civil Defence, described the incident as miraculous.

"It seems like a miracle to us that everyone was rescued alive. We have not eaten anything since morning, but to rescue them alive now does not seem like any trouble," he said.

Bara Aulia Highway police station Sub-Inspector Amir Hossain praised the efficient rescue operations.

"We reached the scene quickly and began rescue operations after receiving information about the accident," he said.
