A police team seized five lakh meters of fishing nets worth around Taka 1.5 crore from different areas in Padma river under Paba Upazila in Rajshahi on Friday, reports BSS. A river police team of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police accompanied by other officials concerned including Paba Upazila Fisheries Officer Abu Bakkar Siddique conducted a raid in different areas and seized the huge quantity of nets.
However, none could be arrested in this connection as the fishermen fled away leaving behind the net. Office-in-Charge (OC) of River Police Station Mehedi Masud told journalists that the fishermen were catching fish using the current nets, which are banned for fishing.
All the law-violators will be brought to book as soon as possible, he added. Meanwhile, the seized nets were destroyed instantly.
