A significant part of the third phase of a relief and rehabilitation mission for flood-affected people in Puichhari of Banshkhali upazila in Chattogram has been completed, with newly constructed and rehabilitated homes formally handed over to five affected families.
The rehabilitation programme, held recently in Puichhari, provided the families with safe shelter after prolonged hardship. The handover brought relief and renewed hope to families who suffered significant losses during the floods.
The humanitarian initiative was led by Marine Engineer Ziaur Rahman Chowdhury, President of the Ad-hoc Committee of Puichhari Izzatia Ideal High School and General Manager (GM) of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC).
The organisers said the initiative focuses not only on providing immediate relief but also on sustainable rehabilitation to help flood-affected people return to normal life. As part of the effort, steps were taken to construct and rehabilitate homes for families whose houses were damaged or destroyed by the floods.
The third phase of the mission has not yet been fully completed. In the partially completed phase, homes have been handed over to five affected families. The organisers expressed hope that assistance to more families would continue in the future, depending on their needs and available resources.
They also expressed gratitude to all those who provided financial support, moral encouragement and voluntary labour to make the humanitarian initiative possible.
According to the organisers, standing beside people during a disaster should not be limited to providing immediate relief. Ensuring safe shelter and helping affected families return to stable and normal lives are also important aspects of humanitarian responsibility.
They expressed hope that collective efforts would enable the initiative to continue bringing new hope to vulnerable families in Puichhari and contribute to their long-term rehabilitation. #EK
