Five DU students receive Editor Abdus Salam Memorial Scholarship

Five meritorious students of Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) Department of Dhaka University (DU) received ‘Editor Abdus Salam Memorial Scholarship’ on Monday.

Lifetime honor, commemorative speeches and scholarships giving ceremony under the ‘Editor Abdus Salam Memorial Trust Fund’ established in the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of Dhaka University was held at the university’s Professor Muzaffar Ahmad Chowdhury Auditorium. 

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Md. Akhtaruzzaman was present as the chief guest on the occasion. The event was organized by the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism.

Chairman of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism Prof Abul Mansur Ahmed presided over the programme.

Treasurer Prof Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed addressed the function as special guest. 

Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman said that the late journalist ABM Musa had provided financial support for the formation of the ‘Editor Abdus Salam Memorial Trust Fund’.

Paying deep respects to the memory of these two late journalists, he said, “Due to their talents, skills, patriotism and unique professionalism, they became organizations from an individual person. These two leaders of journalism have worked all their lives to awaken human values and patriotism in the society.”

He appealed to the students to follow their life and work and build themselves as good citizens.

Dhaka University’s retired Prof Shamsul Majid Harun of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism was conferred Lifetime Achievement Award on the occasion.
