Fishing at Kaptai Lake banned from May 1

District Administration of Rangamati has imposed a ban on catching, transporting and marketing of fish from the Kaptai Lake from 12-00 am of May-1 to 31st July 2020. The administration has also ordered to put all ice-mills of the area closed within the time span.

Rangamati Additional Deputy Magistrate Shilpi Rani Roy said, legal action will be taken against those engaged in catching, marketing or transporting fish from the lake in violation of the order during the time specified.  

To check illegal fishing, mobile court, river-police, BGB and authorities of Fisheries Development Corporation will intensify vigilance at the lake site.  

She further informed, authorities of district administration have already sent a letter to the Ministry of Relief to allocate rice under VGF  programme to some 19,000 fishermen of the Kaptai lake area. Moreover, those fishermen will get relief during the Corona situation. 

It is learnt, four spots of Kaptai lake- Banglo Ghat of DC, Rajbon Vihara Ghat, Longdu Upazila UNO Ghat and Chhoikuri beel of Naniarchar have been declared as fish sanctuaries where fishing of any fish is banned round the year.
