A large number of dead fish suddenly floated in the Mathabhanga River of Chuadanga. Small and large native species of fish are seen on the banks of the river.

A large number of people went down to the Mathabhanga river till midnight on Monday to participate in the fishing festival. Suddenly, seeing the fish feeding in the water along the river bank, fishing started. People of all ages from children to teenagers gather on the banks of the river.

From Monday afternoon, little by little, dead fish were floating in the river water, but since night, people started flocking to see fish floating in several places.

First, after passing through Islampara through Krishnapur, Munshiganj of Alamdanga Upazila, Akandbaria, Hatikata, Taltala of Sadar Upazila, when the water flow reached near Mathabhanga Bridge of Chuadanga district town, it was 9 pm. Why is the water suddenly poisoned? Has anyone experienced the cruelty of fishing with poison?

Local residents said that something like oil was seen floating in Mathabhanga river at a place called Krishnapur near Munshiganj of Alamdanga on Monday afternoon. At the same time, seeing small fish feeding in the water along the river bank, some people started fishing in Mathabhanga river with nets, some parts of mosquito nets, some sarees or towels. When the stream of Mathabhanga gradually came towards Hazrahati, people flocked to see the fish eating in the same way. After Hazrahati, the stream passes through Alukdia, Akandbaria and reaches Hatikata Taltala towards evening. When the news spread, the common people became more curious, some people raised the question, because of the jute in the river, the water has become poisoned and the fish have started eating it? Or someone conspired to poison the fish? Although there was no response, many people were seen fishing in Mathabhanga river till 12 o'clock last night.

An elderly person living in the area along the river Mathabhanga said that once in the eighties of the last century, the water of Mathabhanga was found to be polluted. At that time, due to lack of rain, the river was flooded.
