Fish landing station catches fire in Kalapara

At least 27 fish stores were gutted in a fire that broke out at the Mahipur fish landing station at Kalapara upazila in Patuakhali district on Friday night. The fire originated around 8pm on Friday at Japan fish store and engulfed the adjacent store soon, said Raju Ahmed Raja, general secretary of the Mahipur Fishery Warehouse Owners Association.

On information, two firefighting units from Kalapara Fire Station rushed there and brought the blaze under control around 10pm, said Eliyas Hossain, team leader of of the fire station. Locals said the fire spread out soon as the most of the fish store were made of jute, nets and many other flammable materials.

They also claimed that at least 27 fish store were fully destroyed in the fire which was worth around Tk 3 crore. However, no casualties were reported in this incident and the origin of the fire, and the extend of the damage will be known after investigation, added the fire official.

 Rajshahi Correspondent adds: A fire has broken out at a plastic warehouse at Bagha upazila in Rajshahi district on Friday evening.

The fire originated around 3.30pm at Tepukuria village under the upazila creating panic among the surrounding people.

 Being informed, three fire fighting units rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control after more than three hours of struggle from 3.30 pm to 7pm. While trying douse the blaze, seven people sustained burn injuries. The injured eight persons are identified as Monsur Rahman, 35, Insar Ali, 50, Yazul Islam, 37, Ayub Ali, 34, Rezaul Karim, 36, Amirul Islam, 19, and Sabuj Rana, 22.

Local Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Director Wahidul Islam told journalists that the fire was originated in the plastic storage belonging to Alif Traders from a shot circuit around 3.30 pm.  He said the fire spread throughout the storage as it has adhesive and other chemical substances.  The origin of the fire and the extent of the damage could be known after investigation, added the fire official.
