Police and Coast Guard members in a joint operation recovered a huge consignment of firearms and ammunitions from Bridge No-14 of Teknaf land port in Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday.
According to sources, responding a tip off, the joint forces members chased four people riding on a hill on the opposite site of the Teknaf land port carrying some sacs. The joint forces members opened seven rounds of blank fires to stop those people. But, by leaving two sacks those four people escaped inside the hill. By searching the sacks and the surrounding areas, the joint forces recovered one foreign made G-32 Rifle, Two G-3 magazines, one local pistol, one local two-barrelled local gun, three local one-barrelled guns and 975 rounds of live bullets of G-3 rifles.
It was not possible to arrest anyone since the firearms smugglers managed to escape. The process was underway to take necessary action in this connection, said a press release.
