Fire burns down betel leaf, maize field in Chuadanga

A massive fire has burnt down betel leaf and maize on around 300 bighas' of land at village Khadimpur in Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga district on Thursday. The fire that starter after 11 am, could not be put out till 6 pm on the day. Affected farmers have claimed a loss about tk. 50m in the fire. 

The fire broke out at around 11:30 am in Banatkhal field of the village and personnel of fire service rushed to the spot at about 12:00 from Chuadanga and Alamdanga, said Mojahidur Rahman Joarder Lotus Khadempur Union Parishad Chairman. 

He also stated, the villagers tried to take under control the fire but failed. Affected farmers became helpless. 

Mohammad Rafiquzzaman, Deputy Assistant Director of Chuadanga Fire Service and Civil Defense, four firefighting units took part for bringing  the fire under control and it was controlled after fighting 5 hours.

However, the affected farmers claimed, they had lost over Tk 5 crore in the fire. 

Farmers of the areas said, maize and betel leaf on about 300 bighas of land have been primarily estimated to destroy by the fire. 

Roni Alam Nur, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Alamdanga, visited the incident areas and asked the concerned departments to estimate the loss after preparing a list of affected farmers.
