All types of road construction and repairing works must be completed before the next rainy season. Excavation work should be completed before April. Besides, from now on if any organization needs to dig roads for any kind of development work permission must be taken from city corporations.

Awami League General Secretary ObaidulQuader said these after attending a meeting of the governing council of Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) at DTCA Bhaban in the city's Tejgaon area on Sunday.

He said, “The development of Bangladesh is a wonder to the world. Despite all this development, there is no discipline in roads and transport sector. Discipline should be brought quickly. There is no alternative to awareness for discipline.”

The minister said that a committee has been formed to coordinate the development works of roads and highways. LGRD Minister will be the chairman of the committee.

“In the last 15 years we achieved tremendous development almost in all aspects in our country. Globally such achievements have been praised but sadly due to some irresponsible works we face condemnation. Whatever we construct either its four lanes or eight lanes, all types of vehicles are parked on both side of the road. It cannot be tolerated. We will construct four bus terminals around the capital city,” said the minister.

While replying to a question about next national election, ObaidulQuader said, “Election will be held under the Election Commission. The Awami League government will only discharge its routine works. We will give all kind of support to conduct a free-fair, participatory and creditable election.”

He said that the government is trying to address all the problems that Bangladesh has been facing amid the ongoing global crisis.

He said, “In this global crisis, the opposition parties in other countries play a responsible role and support the government. But, in our country, BNP

does the opposite.”

Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Minister MdTajul Islam, Dhaka South City Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapash and Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary Road ABM Amin Ullah Nuri, among others, were also present at the meeting.
