The Japanese Embassy in Bangladesh hosted a special event for children on 23 November, offering a pre-opening of the "Japanese Film Festival" set to take place on 30 November. The event, held at the embassy's multipurpose hall in Dhaka, featured a selection of Japanese films for children and was organized in collaboration with the KINEKO International Children’s Film Festival, SHOM (Spouse of the Head of Mission), and the Children’s Film Society Bangladesh.

Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh, IWAMA, and his spouse, IWAMA Tomomi, warmly greeted the young attendees. During his speech, Ambassador IWAMA emphasized the importance of Japanese films in sharing the country’s culture and values. He said, “These films are not just entertaining—they offer a window into Japan’s culture and values. In Japan, we love to tell stories through art, film, and animation. And that’s the power of culture—it helps us understand each other, laugh together, and learn from one another.” He also encouraged the children to take an interest in Japan through these films.

The event showcased four award-winning Japanese films: Komaneko, Grandpa’s Star Fireworks, There Must Be More Than That!, and Sweet. These films were shown to students from various schools in Dhaka, who enjoyed the films and later engaged in discussions about their experiences and what they learned.

The occasion was graced by special guests including SHOM members Manu Verma, Paola Belfiore, Eliane Alcantara Feres, and Hadja Sata Seck, as well as Children’s Film Festival Bangladesh Director Md. Shahariar Al Mamun and Mae Watanabe of Ekmattra.

As a special treat, the children were gifted Japanese sweet chocolates by Madam IWAMA Tomomi, Madam Manu Verma, and Madam Paola Belfiore, inspired by the film Sweet. The event provided a joyful and educational experience for the children, further strengthening cultural ties between Japan and Bangladesh.
