Ferry service will be launched to renovate Kalurghat Bridge

The dilapidated Kalurghat Bridge has become expired many years ago.  trains and heavy vehicles are still plying on the dilapidated bridge.  However, there is a proposal for a new bridge, but it will take several years to be fully implemented.  

However, the Cox's Bazar-Chattogram railway line is likely to be launched next year.  Considering these issues, the old bridge will be renovated. 

For this reason, Road Transport and Highways Department Secretary ABM Amin Ullah Nuri said that the ferry will be brought down to protect the Kalurghat bridge and provide some relief from the traffic jam.

He said this after visiting the bridge on Friday evening.  He visited the west bank of the Kalurghat Bridge.  Boalkhali Upazila Parishad Chairman Nurul Alam, Upazila Executive Officer Mohammad Mamun, Upazila Vice Chairman Bir Muktijoddha SM Salim, Awami League Leader Borhan Uddin Emran, Md Nurul Amin Chowdhury, Rezaul Karim Babul, Shahadat Hossain, Municipal Mayor Zahurul Islam Zahur and Municipal Corporation Panel Mayor Tarekul Islam Tarek were present.

Boalkhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Mamun said, "It has been decided to open a ferry in the river for heavy vehicles to pass along with traffic congestion in Kalurghat.  For that purpose, the work of the ferry will start within the next month.
