Ferry Ghat No. 4, known as VIP at Shimulia Ghat in Louhojong Upazila of Munshiganj, has been washed away by the strong current of Padma.

The erosion started at around 3 am on Wednesday (August 5) which still continues.

Shafayet Ahmed, manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Shimulia Ghat, confirmed the information.

He said the pontoon was immediately removed and taken to a safe place when the demolition started. The river has also rached the parking area.

As a result, two of the four ferry ghats on the Shimulia-Kanthalbari route disappeared.

Just nine days ago, ferry ghat number three disappeared. Shops in the vicinity are at risk of collapse. Many are moving to safer places.

On the other hand, the authorities stopped the ferry service at Shimulia Ghat after 8 am. The ferry has been shut down to avoid accidents in hostile weather.
