A man who murdered his five-year-old son with the help of his brother to take revenge against their rivals, were sentenced to death on Monday. District and Sessions Judge in Sunamganj Wahiduzzaman Shikdar delivered the verdict of the gruesome murder of five-year-old child Tuhin Hasan in presence of the convicts.

The convicts are Abdul Basir, 40, father of victim Tuhin Hasan, and his brother Abdur Musabbir, 35.  The court, however, acquitted Tuhin’s other uncles Jomshed Ali and Abdul Mosabbir from the charges. In her reaction, Public Prosecutor of Sunamganj Advocate Shahsun Nahar Begum Shahana said that they are happy over the verdict. Tuhin’s mother is also happy over the verdict.

Earlier, a Juvenile Court on March 10 sentenced a teenage accused in the case to eight-year imprisonment. He is Shahriar Ahmed alias Shaharul, 17, cousin of Tuhin.

In a heinous act of crime, minor child Tuhin was brutally murdered in the early hours on October 14 in 2019 by his own relatives at Kejaura village under Derai upazila in Sunamganj. His mutilated body was found hanging from a tree while two knives used in the murder were found stuck in his abdomen.

Later, his mother Monira Begum filed a murder case. The murder drew condemnation from people across the country on social media. During primary interrogation, Tuhin's father Basir, and uncle Nasir confessed to the murder. Police also said Basir and Nasir committed the murder to frame rivals and establish local dominance.
