Father-in-law detained for inciting suicide

A case has been filed, 24 days after the suicide of housewife Sharmin of Itna village of Lohagara in Narail on charges of inciting. The victim's father filed the case as a plaintiff with the Lohagarh Police Station on the night of February 11 (Thursday) accusing four people. Police has arrested Sharmin's father-in-law Bablu Sheikh, 50, regarding the incident and sent him to jail. In the case father-in-law Bablu Sheikh, mother-in-law Rehena Begum, and uncle-in-law Rahim Sheikh, including husband Rikat have been accused. 

According to statement, about three months ago Helal Uddin aka Rikat Sheikh, 26, son of Bablu Sheikh of Itna village, got married to Sharmin, 23, daughter of Liton Sheikh of Mashaghuni village in Lohagara municipality area. Since the marriage father-in-law Bablu Sheikh, mother-in-law Rehena Begum, and uncle-in-law Rahim Sheikh, including husband Rikat have been demanding various household items. As Sharmin's family expressed inability to deliver the demanded goods, she was subjected to various injustices including physical and mental torture. At one stage of continuous physical and mental torture, Sharmin committed suicide by hanging herself at her father-in-law's house on January 18.

Officer-in-Charge of Lohagara Police Station Syed Ashiqur Rahman said efforts were being made to arrest the rest of the accused.
