Farmers of Ishwardi organised a human chain and wayside meeting demanding the withdrawal of hartal and a blockade programme called by BNP-Jamaat at the Vegetables Market of Muladuli Union of Ishwardi on Thursday noon.

The Central Committee of Bangladesh KrishakUnnayan Samityorganised the programme demanding the hassle-free marketing of agricultural products. Earlier last Tuesday, BKUS organised a Press Conference at the auditorium of Ishwardi Press Club with the same demand.

Local farmers and people from diverse professions attended the human chain and wayside meeting. The hour-long programme was addressed, among others, by President of the Central Committee of BKUS Siddiqur Rahman alias Kul Moyez, General Secretary of BKUS Abul Hashem, National Prize Winner farmer Habibur Rahman alias Mach Habib, female farmer Bely Begum, farmer Rezaul Karim and local UP Chairman Abdul Khalek.

BKUS President Kul Moyez at the programme said, farmers provide food for 18 crore people of the country but it was unacceptable that those truck-laden foods earned with sweat and hard labour are burnt down.

The farmers have been made hostages by the name of hartal and blockade. He further mentioned those who enforced the blockade do not want any good for farmers. He demanded to withdraw the blockade immediately and not to call any hartal or blockade in future.

Earlier in the press conference, the farmer leaders said, the farmers were not being able to sell and marketing of their agricultural products for which the farmers were incurring a huge loss. Vegetables and agricultural products worth crores of Taka remained unsold every day and the farmers were facing the total loss.
