Cow rearing farmers and owners of cow farms are becoming worried for attacking the disease of cows in Chuadanga.

According to the department of livestock services, 2940 cows have been attacked with lumpy disease in four upazilas of the district. Of the total, 105 cows have been attacked with lumpy disease in sadar upazila, 150 cows in Damurhuda upazila, 105 cows in Jibannagar upazila and 2580 cows in Alamdanga upazila.

Hazaz Ali of village Majhhad in Alamdanga upazila of the district said he has 50 cows but 7 cows out of 50 have been attacked with lumpy disease.

Saifuddin of village Gorchapra in Alamdanga upazila said his cow has been attacked with lumpy skin disease and treatment has been arranged.

It is learnt, lumpy skin disease is an infectious, eruptive and occasionally fatal disease of cow. Secondary bacterial infection often aggravates the condition.

The greatest loss is due to reduced milk and rejection value of hide. Mortality is usually low.  No cows died here of the disease so far know.

The sources added that vaccination with attenuated virus offers the promising method of control. The viruses of goat pox and sheep pox passed in tissue culture also have been used. On the other hand administration of antibiotics to control infection and good nursing care are recommended.

Nodules develop on the skin of the infected and then the cow suffers from fever and loses its appetite, Dr. Mosfizur Rahman said.
