Farmer killed in Magura

Mashiur Rahman 45, was killed by rival group at Daribila village in Sreepur upazila of Magura on Tuesday morning. The brutal murder took place due to social factions created by two local Awami League leaders for political supremacy. Moshiur is a farmer by profession. Besides, he has political affiliation with a group of local Awami League in rural social parties.

Mashiur's wife Latifa Begum said Mutasim Billah Sangram, chairman of Srikol Union and the organizing secretary of Sreepur Upazila Awami League and Kutubullah Kutir, the former chairman of Srikol Union, a member of the same union, had a long-running dispute over local political dominance. Two social groups have been formed in Daribila village with the support of the two leaders. One party was led by Nazir Mia, a member of Srikol Union Awami League. On the other side is Hashem 

Ali Master, another member of the same union Awami League. Moshiur Rahman is related with UP chairman Samgram Group. The people of Hashem Ali, supported by Qutbullah, have long been harassing and beating the people of Nazir Mia, who supports the Mutasim Billah Group, in various ways, due to disputes over various issues, including the last election of the Srikol Union. Muktar Hossain, a supporter of the opposition social party Hashem Master, had an argument with Mashiur Rahman's cousin Dollar Mia, who was killed in a female incident recently, which creates a tense situation. At one stage, Ayub, Zaman, Tuhin, Aslam, Jahangir, Limon and others of the opposition group found Mashiur Rahman alone in a tea shop in the area on Tuesday morning and stabbed him with sharp weapon. Mashiur died on the way to Magura Sadar Hospital in critical condition.

Magura Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ali Ahmed Masud said an operation was underway to arrest the accused. Police are deployed in the area to avoid further violence. The body of the deceased has been sent to the morgue for autopsy.
