In our country, agriculture has always been one of the most significant parts of our economy. Even amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the country’s economy got back on track due to surge in export of agricultural products.

Farm exports’ value was Tk 780.16 crore during the corresponding period in 2019-20 fiscal, according to the latest data of Export Promotion Bureau (EPB). The overall exports of agricultural commodities have maintained a steady rise as the exports rose by 16.13 per cent. The total value of the export of such products stands at Tk 905.99 crore in July-May period of the current fiscal (FY2020-21).

Bangladesh produces diversified agricultural products. We have seen a positive growth in exports of tea, tobacco, spices, dry fruits and others but we experienced negative growth in vegetable exports.

Government should assist farmers by

providing them with apt information,

 latest technology, monetary support

to achieve better crop yields

This happened due to the pandemic as the flights were suspended. So we need to find a long term alternative solution to deal with such problem. Cold storages need to be updated and maintained by  a team of expertise, so that we can store the fruits and vegetables there for a longer period of time.

More export sources of our vegetables and fruits need to be found. The international standard of agricultural products must be maintained and our government needs to take a more holistic approach to achieve that quest. Bulk production is another crucial necessity.

Therefore, necessary measures should be taken to ensure that. Government and relevent authorities should assist farmers by providing them with apt information, latest technology and monetary support to achieve better crop yields.
