Farm mechanisation increases crop production in Moulvibazar

Published : 25 Nov 2022 08:03 PM

A bumper production of high yielding Aman paddy has been achieved in Moulvibazar through farm mechanization. After planting Aman paddy in the same land, harvesting has now started with a combine harvester. Therefore, they are relying on modern agricultural machinery. There is no labor shortage due to mechanical dependence, the production is also improving. The agriculture department said that the government is assisting the farmers in purchasing agricultural machinery.

Moulvibazar district is filled with the smell of new paddy. It is seen that someone is cutting paddy, some farmers are preparing to cut paddy. Harvesting with combine harvesters has started after planting seedlings of Aman paddy in the same land through formal farm mechanization in the current Aman season.

Every year there is a labor crisis during the paddy harvesting season. Many people are not able to take home the golden harvest rice in time. As a result of this, paddy has fallen in many fields and the farmers are in despair as well as the losers. As planting and harvesting are mechanized, farmers are getting good yields at low cost.

Humayed Ali Shaheen, the initiator of farm mechanization, said that 75 varieties of hybrid and BRRI have been cultivated on 123 bigha of land this year. Out of this, 83 bigha land is planted with rice transplanter and rice is harvested with combined harvester machine. Paddy cutting, threshing and threshing are done simultaneously. Due to which less workers are needed. It reduces the cost. For the last two years I have become completely dependent on the device. Combined harvesters, power tillers, shallow pumps are all dependent on diesel. The recent increase in diesel prices has increased the cost of production in agriculture. In that case, if the price of paddy is increased a little more, then the farmer will benefit and the interest of the farmer will increase.

Mannaf Mia of Bhujbal village said, due to mechanization, the cost has reduced, the yield on the land is getting better. Rice transplanter machine can transplant young seedlings. It also improves the yield. Earlier, 15 to 16 maunds of paddy per bigha were available; now 22 to 24 maunds of paddy are available in those lands. In the land where we are harvesting paddy, we planted saplings with machines. I am harvesting paddy with combined harvester machine, the cost of production has been reduced a lot.

Samchuddin Ahmed, Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension Department, said that this year the farmers have cultivated different varieties of BRRI-paddy and hybrid paddy. Aman paddy cultivation has had a bumper yield this year due to favorable environment and less spider attack. Besides, every year cultivation in uncultivated land is increasing and crop production is increasing through farm mechanization. The target area for Aman paddy cultivation in the district this year was 1 lakh 1 thousand 4 hundred hectares. 1 lakh 1600 hectares of land has been cultivated. The potential production of which is estimated to be 2 lakh 80 thousand metric tons. However, he is optimistic that this year the production will be above 3 lakh metric tons.

Deputy Commissioner Mir Nahid Ahsan said, under the direction of the honorable Prime Minister, the government is giving subsidies and incentives to mechanization with utmost importance in the agricultural sector so that not an inch of land is left vacant. This is encouraging the farmers. Government is providing 70% subsidy in Haor region and 50% in other regions for purchase of modern agricultural machinery.

So farmers are benefiting from agricultural mechanization.
