Even though a few Bollywood films will be approved for import in Bangladesh, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting did not allow "Faraaz", a Bollywood film about the Holey Artisan attack on July 1, 2016— to be screened in Bangladesh
The concerned ministry has issued a notice regarding this matter.
The notice was issued in a circular signed by Md Shahinoor Miah, Chief Information Officer, Press Information Department, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Monday.
In the circular, it is stated that in view of the Writ Petition No.-1889/2023, the High Court has directed that "Faraaz" should not be made available on Netflix, Amazon Prime, other online platforms, television channels and film screenings in Bangladesh.
The notice also states that in view of the directive, "Faraaz" has been requested not to be shown on online portals, e-magazines, online versions of newspapers and online TV portals in Bangladesh.
Directed by Hansal Mehta, the film created a lot of controversy in Bangladesh and India, even before its release.
Ruba Ahmed, the mother of Abinta Kabir—one of the victims of the Holey Artisan attack—had previously said that such incidents "must not be represented, not now, not tomorrow, not ever".
Ruba Ahmed had filed a writ in the High Court on February 12, seeking an order to prevent the release of "Faraaz" in Bangladesh.
