An FDR (Fixed Deposit) of Tk 5 lakh has been given to the family of Jahedul, a rickshaw driver who was electrocuted when a moving rickshaw broke at Oxygen Junction.
Later, he died in Chattogram Medical College (CMC) Hospital while undergoing treatment
Chattogram Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Masud Kamal handed over the fixed deposit documents to Jahedul's relatives on Monday morning.
It is known that State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid directed the Power Secretary and Chairman of PDB to give a fixed deposit of Tk 5 lakh to the family of the rickshaw puller at the request of Chattogram District Commissioner.
Later on June 5, PDB opened a fixed deposit of Tk 5 lakh in the name of deceased's wife Umme Kulsum and father Md. Mahatab Ali at Chattogram Court hill branch of Sonali Bank.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Hussain Muhammad said, in the presence of PDB officials, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Masud Kamal handed over the fixed deposit documents to Jahedul's relatives.
Earlier on the morning of May 14, the rickshaw driver Jahedul was electrocuted by a broken electric wire while driving a rickshaw from Haji Wazed Petrol Pump towards Bangabandhu Avenue at Oxygen Junction in the city.
PDB Chattogram chief engineer Rezaul Karim said that minimum compensation should be given to the deceased rickshaw puller after the incident.
Chattogram District Commissioner (DC) Abul Basar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman said, I have spoken to the state minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid. Deceased rickshaw puller has a child, can any financial help be given to him? I will tell PDB Chairman to give FDR of Tk 5 lakh. He told me to contact PDB Chairman and Power Secretary.
I have contacted the power secretary Electricity Secretary Habibur Rahman said that if there is someone above in the family of the deceased rickshaw driver, he will arrange a job. '
He also said that the rickshaw puller's family was given Tk 25,000 for burial after he was killed in the accident.
