Family of Captain Hadisur killed in Ukraine receives grants

International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) and Bangladesh Merchant Marine Officers Association (BMTA) have given a grant of Tk 10,27,177 to the family of Md. Hadisur Rahman, the third engineer killed in a rocket attack on the Bangladeshi flag-carrying ship 'MV Banglar Samriddhi’ at the port of Olivia in Ukraine.

Assistance was handed over to Golam Maula Prince, younger brother of Captain Hadisur, at the BMMOA office in the Barik Building area of Chattogram city on Friday afternoon.

BMMOA President Capt. Md. Anam Chowdhury said that BMMOA is the only union consisting of Bangladeshi Marine Officers working on land and at sea and on land.  The term of this organization is 40 years.  Associations in various departments or forums of the government, including all kinds of meetings of the Ministry of Shipping and the Department of Shipping, present just demands on behalf of the Bangladeshi Mariners and work for the welfare of the Mariners.  Following this, ITF and Bangladeshi Mariners have provided financial assistance of Tk 10 lakh 27 thousand 177 for Hadisur's family.

 He said the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation had promised to provide adequate compensation to Hadisur's family but had not done so yet.  On March 15, in response to a reporter's question at Dhaka's Shahjalal Airport, Bangladesh Shipping Corporation official Captain Md. Abu Sufian promised to pay a large amount of compensation to Hadisur's family within a week, but it has not been implemented yet.  As far as we know, the process of compensation is going on under BSC   But BSC has not yet made any specific announcement in this regard.  If they wanted, they could have settled the issue long ago.
