Fake doctor jailed in Thakurgaon

A mobile court has arrested a fake doctor named Sohag Islam Babu and sentenced him to three months imprisonment for trying to treat all types complex diseases without any qualifications. On Saturday, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abdullah Al Mamun sentenced the fake doctor in Bara Khochabari Hat area of Thakurgaon.

The convicted doctor is Md Sohag Islam Babu (20), son of late Khalilur Rahman of Kismat Daulatpur area of Sadar upazila.

According to the locals, Sohag Islam Babu had been putting up huge signboards in Boro Khonchabari area of Jagannathpur Union of Sadar Upazila for several days, claiming to be a specialist doctor and cheating in the name of providing medical services to the poor and helpless people of the area.

When the Upazila Nirbahi Officer raided his shop and interrogated him, the alleged doctor Babu admitted all his faults and said that even though he mentioned in his visiting card about having a diploma, he was not a diploma holder. Even the degrees he mentioned are of a village doctor. Besides, he has not done DMF degree and he does not have any degree certificate.

At this time, when the executive officer checked his bag, more terrible information came out. Out of his bag come a set of patient prescriptions.

There is a list of what medicine will be given along with the description of the symptoms of the disease. This list was made by the doctor he worked as a compounder and he treated the patients accordingly.

Abdullah-al-Mamun, executive magistrate of the mobile court and Sadar upazila executive officer, said, "We were able to catch the culprit before any major incident took place." The convict pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three months in prison.
