Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has arrested five people from five districts of the country in the case of fake birth registration by illegally accessing the server of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC).
According to Counter Terrorism (CTTC) sources, they have arrested a total of five members including three hackers of registration certificate fraud ring by conducting continuous special operations in Chattogram, Narail, Dhaka, Gazipur and Sirajganj. During this time, 2 CPUs, 2 monitors, 3 laptops, 1 tab, 1 printer and 6 mobile phones used in fraud were seized from them.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of CMP Counter-Terrorism Department Liaqat Ali gave this information in a press conference at CMP Media Center on Sunday.
The arrested are - Shakeel Hossain (23), Masud Rana (27), Sagar Ahmed Jovan (23), Sheikh Sejan (23), Mehdi Hasan (23).
Sagar Ahmed Jovan is the principal among them. His leadership led this gang. Sejan, Masud and Jovan were mainly involved in hacking. Mehdi and Shakeel worked as liaisons.
In the press conference, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of CMP's Counter Terrorism Unit, Asif Mohiuddin said, existence of 782 fake birth certificates was found from the server of No. 13 Pahartali ward, No. 40 Patenga ward, No. 14 Khulshi ward, No. 11 South Kattoli ward of Chattogram City Corporation.

Those arrested said that they had registered thousands of fake births. They charge Tk 1200-1500 for each fake birth certificate. Primarily collected by customers. After collecting the information from the target persons, they register on the government-designated website using the fake address of the person and provide the information to a so-called hacker.
Liaqat Ali said hackers illegally access the birth registration server and prepare a fake birth certificate. Again sends these members of the cycle. Preliminary investigation revealed that they entered the birth registration server through hacking, took control of the server, created fake birth registration certificates and supplied them to other members.
In the interrogation, it is known that so far they have created numerous birth registration certificates in Chattogram, Faridpur, Bagerhat, Narsingdi districts including Chattogram, Dhaka North, Dhaka South, Cumilla, Sylhet and Mymensingh City Corporation through fraud. For a long time, several other groups including Tara have been carrying out this fraudulent activity across the country. Initial interrogation of the members of the fraud ring revealed that they have so far produced and distributed thousands of fake birth registration certificates. They also said that many other such gangs like them are involved in these illegal activities across the country.
Initial examination of the devices seized from the arrested accused revealed numerous digital evidences regarding the authenticity of the information. 2 cases were registered in Khulshi police station, 1 in Halishahar police station and 1 in Bandar police station of Chattogram city. Operations and legal proceedings are ongoing to arrest other members of the gang.
