Bangladesh's dismal run in white-ball cricket hit a new low as they succumbed to a comprehensive 57-run defeat against Pakistan in the second Twenty20 International on Friday. The loss at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium, witnessed firsthand by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director and newly elected vice president Nazmul Abedin Fahim, follows swiftly on the heels of their series defeat to the UAE last week.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, Fahim addressed the team's batting frailties, which have been a significant factor in their recent losses. "We are striving for improvement," Fahim stated. "This involves securing better grounds and wickets, increasing the number of playing facilities, further educating our coaches, providing them with essential equipment, and implementing a robust, monitored programme. There must be accountability from coaches, players, and everyone responsible for the programme."
Fahim, a respected figure in Bangladeshi cricket coaching circles, acknowledged the public's dissatisfaction with the team's current performance. "The way the Bangladesh team is playing today, I know it's not pleasing anyone. We must accept this responsibility. Therefore, we need to establish a framework for accountability."
The BCB vice president also highlighted internal shortcomings within the board. "If I were to point out the biggest deficiency, it would be the lack of collective decision-making," Fahim remarked. "We could have progressed significantly in many areas, made the right decisions, and acted swiftly on numerous tasks.
At one point, everything came to a standstill, and very little work advanced."
