Police conducting a raid in Bogura's Sherpur Upazila recovered 30 sacks of adulterated fertilizer and equipment for making adulterated fertilizer on Wednesday midnight. Two people were arrested at the time.

According to police, these miscreants were producing adulterated fertilizers by mixing chemical dyes and various substances with soil and bricks and selling them in local market. Their target was to make a pile of money by selling these worthless fertilizers in the current Boro season deceiving the farmers.

The detainees were identified as

Zahid Hossain, 40, son of Habibur Rahman of Mahipur Colony village in Sherpur upazila and Al Amin Hossain, 36, son of Abdus Samad Fakir of the same village.

Sherpur Police Station Inspector (Investigation) SM Abul Kalam Azad said the factory producing adulterated fertilizer and pesticides was raided on the basis of secret information. At that time, two people were arrested on suspicion of being involved.

Although, police could not apprehend the mastermind behind the fraud as he escaped, a police operation is ongoing to catch him. From the factory, 30 sacks of adulterated fertilizer, 50 kg of dyes, fake-labeled packets of 15 companies, spray machines, soil and bricks fragments were seized, added the inspector.

The police official further said that the farmers were cheated by the scammers as using these fertilizers will do more harm than good to the crop. Preparations are underway to file a case with the police station, in this regard.

According to Sherpur Police Station sources, a man rented Zahid Hossain's house along with two neighboring go downs in Mahipur village about six months ago and started making adulterated fertilizers and pesticides there.
