Extortion from vehicles won’t be tolerated: Mahul

Lawmaker of Jhenaidah-2 seat Naser Shahrier Zahedi Mahul said that the transport workers should ensure services to the people with their utmost honesty and sincerity. He also demanded end to any type of illegal toll collection form the transports and other vehicles. 

Presided over by Jhenaidah bus, minibus, coach, microbus transport workers’ union president Waliur Rahman Khan, the lawmaker was addressing as the chief guest a gathering at the union office auditorium on Saturday. Mahul had distributed cash among family members of a number of transport workers died in any way last year. Taka 10 lakh was distributed infavour of Mahul’s Zahedi Foundation, while another Taka one lakh from Jhenaidah municipality.

Awami League Jhenaidah Sadar upazila unit general secretary Shahidul Islam Hiron and transport union general secretary Ashrafuzzaman Khokan, among others spoke. Mahul said he will not entertain any terrorism in the name of any party or group which was a bad trend seen among some of the leaders and their activists. When the national polls were over, each and every people of the constituency will enjoy freedom of voice, activities and their own profession in the democratic country. He had expressed his deep concern with the below standard services and ignorance in Jhenaidah sadar hospital authorities. He urged upon the transport workers to make their children good citizens so that they could be responsible for building a peaceful society. Mahul had assured of all sorts of financial and other support in any crisis or needs of the transport workers. 

Later, the lawmaker met the family members of Awami League leader Barun Ghosh at Hamdah Ghoshpra to express his sympathy to them when Barun was allegedly killed by his village rivals immediate after the 12th national polls following land dispute. Eminent social worker Israil Hossain Shanti and Jhenaidah bus, minibus owners’ association ex-president Mohammad Ali Kanu among pothers present. He had assured the family members to extend his hands towards the bereaved family   members.
