Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s various initiatives will save the country’s poor and jobless people during this ongoing lockdown enforced due to surge in Coronavirus infection.

These measures include cash incentive, supply of food items, making available commodities through TCB at cheaper rates and providing assistance to farmers and other people.

The government will provide financial aid of Tk 2500 to each of 35lakh low-income families while around one lakh families of farmers will get Tk 5000 each.

In the wake of a massive spike of corona virus infections, the government on Monday extended the ongoing countrywide lockdown until April 28.

Poor people especially day-labourers, rickshaw-pullers, vendors, hawkers, cobblers, farmers, construction workers, domestic helps, transport workers, grocery shop owners and others engaged in different professions are facing serious financial hardships due to the restrictions enforced on movements and overall activities.

The government must open

a hotline service in order to

provide food to them quickly

We believe, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the friend of the poor and the leader of the grassroots people, has been trying her best to bring smiles on the faces of the poor in the country during this pandemic.

She has extended all possible support to the low income group and the marginal people and the farmers as well to help them grow more food in view of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic alongside the measures to make sure that they (farmers) will have food in their houses.

We, therefore, think government must open a hotline service in order to provide food to them quickly.

Besides, the government will have to take steps like sending money digitally to the ultra-poor who suffer paucity of funds during this lockdown.

It will also have to monitor the transaction of cash strictly to know whether the really affected poor are getting the financial aids.

Apart from the government, the affluent will also have to stand beside the poor and vulnerable groups as the country is going through a critical juncture.

We think pandemic and cyclone, floods and other natural calamities will be there, but we will have to move ahead facing those.

To face any calamity, united efforts of people and government measures are also indispensable.
