Ex-N’ganj OC lands in jail

Former Officer-in-Charge of Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station Md. Kamrul Islam lands in jail in a narcotics and cash money recovery case filed with Bandar police station.

On March 7, 2018 the Detective Branch of police in a raid recovered 49,000 pieces of yaba pills and Tk 5 lakh cash from the rented house of Assistant Sub-Inspector Sohrawardy at Rupali residencial area of Bandar upazila. Sohrawardy served in Narayanganj sadar model police station.

The detective branch police had filed a case with Bandar police station under narcotics controlling act in this regard.

The case investigation officer Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Nazimuddin of Dhaka Criminal Investigation Department (CID) first submitted a charge sheet in this case to the court accusing 7, except OC Kamrul Islam.

But after a few month the same investigator of the case submitted a supplement charge sheet including the name of OC Kamrul Islam, mentioning that the two accused ASI Sohrawardy and constable Asaduzzaman gave statement to the court saying that they kept narcotics and cash money by the order of the then OC Kamrul Islam.

OC Kamrul Islam surrendered on October 22 but none disclosed it to the media even all concerned section tried to suppress the incident.

OC Kamrul Islam surrendered before the senior Judicial Magistrate Md. Kawser Alam and pleaded for bail. After hearing, the court rejected his bail plead and ordered to send him in jail.

When contacted, public prosecutor, court inspector and Jailer of Narayanganj Jail all tried to escape giving any information. However, a reliable source anonymously confirmed the information to this reporter.
