Ex-MP Samsuddin dies of Covid-19

Samsuddin Ahmed, a former lawmaker of Manikganj-2 (Harirampur-Shibalaya) constituency, died of coronavirus on Sunday. He was 72.

He breathed his last at the United Hospital in Dhaka around 1:15am on Sunday.

Shahabuddin Chanchol, younger son of the former lawmaker, confirmed the matter to the Bangladesh Post saying his father was admitted to the hospital after being infected by coronavirus on December 1. Born in 1945 at Mirzaganj village of the district’s Harirampur upazila, Samsuddin was elected to parliament in 2001 from Harirampur-Shibalaya constituency as an independent candidate.

Later, he joined the Awami League.

Before that, he was the chairman of Harukandi Union Parishad and chairman of Harirampur Upazila Parishad for two terms. He served as an advisor to the district and Harirampur upazila Awami League.

Samsuddin is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.
